Bill Cunningham, Cincinnati’s village idiot

From the Cincinnati Enquirer: McCain rebukes Cunningham

Radio talk show host Bill Cunningham’s mocking and harsh criticism of Democrat Barack Obama upstaged Republican presidential candidate John McCain’s rally today in Cincinnati.
Sen. McCain apologized for the remarks by the WLW radio talk show host.

Cunningham said later that he stood by his comments. He told his listeners: ‘”I’ve had it with McCain. I’m going to throw my support to Hillary Rodham Clinton.”

Cunningham represents the worst in fear mongering politics.  Playing on racial fears and divisive stereotypes to advance his own agenda. He’s says he’s the voice of the common man, but he isn’t.  He’s the voice of the pompous, self-promoting, ratings grabbing Bill Cunningham.  Why anyone gives this a clown a platform to spout his hate speech is beyond comprehension.  Watching the video, I’m reminded of the dumb and loud school yard bully, resorting to name calling when you have nothing intelligent or witty to say.

Bill Cunningham is a total embarrassment to Cincinnati.  Thanks for getting Cincinnati into the news again, Bill.

UPDATE: Raw Video of Bill Cunningham’s Rant

UPDATE: Now Bill Cunningham is upset that “John McCain threw me under a bus”
From CNN.com: McCain apology angers conservative host

Cunningham said McCain “ought to attack Democrats and quit attacking conservatives like me.”

“I, for one, regret that John McCain is the nominee of the conservative party,” he said.

Hmmm. Isn’t it possible that McCain isn’t actually attacking conservatives, but Bill Cunningham’s idiocy?  Of course Bill Cunningham isn’t capable of comprehending that he isn’t the totality of the Conservative wing of the Republican Party.

Ok – I have to comment on this one because honestly – I do not see how using HIS GIVEN NAME can be considered racist. Then again – I’m just a white girl that must obviously have a racial agenda regardless of what I say or do simply because I’m white. Regardless of the friends I have, the town that I grew up in, or the cultures that I study, obviously I’m a racist because I’m white. Truthfully, I’m sick of everything being a racial issue regardless of intentions. In the words of the late Rodney King, “Can’t we all just get along?”
Do I think Big Willie sometimes spouts off unneccessarily? Yes. But, do I think people are being a bit too sensitive about calling him Barack Hussein Obama when it’s his given name? YES.
Let’s see – he said “Rodham” so he must obviously have something against the English now.

It isn’t racist. And I didn’t say it was.
But, do you know what McCain’s middle name is? It’s Sidney, John Sidney McCain III, but does Cunningham use it? No. Because it doesn’t suit his fear mongering agenda. Cunningham wants the uneducated to fear Obama because his middle name is Hussein. You and I may not fall for it, but you can be darn certain that some people listen to that type of thing. How can people be too sensitive when Cunningham has a history of using inflammatory racial statements.

He is the average white american male(notice i do not say man)-who thinks skin color can think, who is an old and dying breed of American, that stole the land from the natives and enslaved and held back true human equality. that time should be over now but it will probably naturally occur in 10 years, unless those males put on their “lets blow it all up and let god decide” mantras.

Over the past 20 years, when Cunningham called politicians, “Ronald Wilson Reagan,” “George Herbert Walker Bush,” “William Jefferson Clinton,” “Richard Milhouse Nixon,” “George Walker Bush,” etc., was that inappropriate too?
The media is so lazy that because they didn’t know Bill Cunningham or what he was about, they figured it was new and intentional. Look, he’s a loud-mouth self-promoter.
The current President, who I do not like, has been called an idiot, moron, liar, murderer, cheat…many have wished that he and/or the vice president were dead. So that was okay (I agree that it’s okay, perhaps classless), but calling a grown man who will likely be the leader of the free world in a year by his full GIVEN name and saying he’s a political hack isn’t okay?
Man, lighten up! Barack is a big boy. He’s also not perfect and not a sacred cow.

Can we assume that you were equally outraged by Jon Stewart’s very similar, yet even more inflammatory comments regarding Barack Obama’s name at the Academy Awards this past Sunday night? Funny how those comments coming from him didn’t raise national attention, but we all know why, don’t we?
Regarding Cunningham, you must not listen much. He often uses middle names, including Johnnie Reid Edwards, Hillary Rodham Clinton, Rudolph William Giuliani, Williard Mitt Romney (there’s a bad name for you!), and yes, John Sidney McCain along with gobs of others.
Cunningham offends a LOT of people a LOT of the time. He’s offended me in the past, yet I defend his right to say what he wants to say. I think there are some leftists out there who call themselves Americans, but would love to see people like him (or the entire Fox News Channel for that matter) permanantly silenced. But then people like you wouldn’t get to call Eddie Fingers and express their opinions about things like Bodies either, and talk radio would be boring.

Thanks for commenting. You’re right, I don’t listen to much of Bill Cunningham. As soon as I hear his voice I’m off searching for something more pleasant, like crying babies or chalk against a chalkboard. But, I have heard Bill Cunningham use middle names, but not like this instance, as a pejorative. In the context of his rant, it seemed to be a calculated move to incite race politics. Listen to the video and judge for yourself.
I think Bill Cunningham represents the worst in politics. The divisiveness and coarseness that he expounds sickens me. But, I do believe he has the right to express his opinion as do I in condemning him.
Jon Stewart’s monologue at the Oscars didn’t win any points with me either. But Jon Stewart also doesn’t have the ax to grind against Democrats like how Bill Cunningham does either. And his delivery was not nearly as vitriolic.
Here’s the transcript of Jon Stewart at the end of his monologue:
Oscar is 80 this year, which makes him now automatically the frontrunner for the Republican nomination. You have to admit, this is a huge election. An historic election. So much excitement. For the first time in so many years we don’t have an incumbent president or an incumbent vice-president. The field is wide open. Have you all had a chance to examine all the candidates, study their positions and pick the Democrat you’ll vote for? Democrats do have an historic race going. Hillary Clinton vs. Barack Obama. Normally, when you see a black man or a woman president an asteroid is about to hit the Statue of Liberty. How will we know it’s the future? Silver unitards, that can’t be all?
You have to give Barack Obama credit, he’s overcome a great deal. Not just he’s an African-American. Barack Hussein Obama is his name. His middle name is the last name of Iraq’s former tyrant. His last name rhymes with Osama. That’s not easy to overcome. I think we all remember the ill fated 1944 presidential campaign of Gaydolf Titler. It’s just a shame, Titler had so many good ideas. We just couldn’t get past the name. And the moustache. But, are you ready to have a wonderful show ladies and gentlemen and welcome back to this town? I’m delighted that you’re here. We’re going to have a great night.

I agree that Bill Cunningham is self centered and pompous very likely narcissistic. He thinks he is higher than thou enough to influence Cincinnati with his childish bashing.

For the record I am a Democrat from Cincinnati and do not support McCain but I do commend him on not accepting Cunningham’s cheap tactics. To me it shows McCain is “the better man” Cunningham just thinks he’s “The Man”. Another embarrassment for our city.

By the way I wonder how many people know that Bill Cunninghams wife happens to be a County Judge here in Cincinnati. Isn’t that a scary thought!

Bill Cunningham and his unintelligent followers are one reason why Islamic Terrorist want kill Americans. He is nothing but a bigotted, sexist racist who gives real human beings a bad name. And all that follow him or even listen to his radio show are just as bad.

    XXX,
I think what you mean is that you have to be intelligent to listen to and understand Cunningham. When you catch a real grasp on reality, perhaps you’ll be able to understand his message instead of holding onto whatever predispositions it is that make up your agenda.
Go vote for Obama tomorrow. Embrace the entitlement attitude.

Bill, I listen to you almost every day. Today you talked about the killer of the 13 year old girl. I have suggestion about Jail Space. Lets take our tax deferment on the fORD PLANT IN cLERMONT COUNTY AND PAY THEM THE DIFFERENCE. THEN CONTRACT WITH THE 7 COUNTIES IN THIS AREA AND MAKE IT A REGIONAL MINIMUM SECURITY JAIL. WE COULD BUT ABOUT 5000 ARMY COTS (LIKE THE SHERIFF DOES IN ARIZONA) tHE NON VIOLENT PRISIONERS WOULD HAVE TO REPORT THERE FOR THERE INCERATION TIME.wE COULD SERVE FROZEN MEALS. THINK ABOUT HOW MANY JAIL CELLS WOULD BE OPEN FOR THE VIOLENT PRISIONERS TO BE LOCKED UP AND NOT ON THE STREET. wE ARE GOING TO NEED TO STOP TYING UP MAXIMUM SECURITY CELLS WITH MDSE PRISONERS.tHEN WE NEED TO GET ON THE(XVERON) POLITICIANS TP PASS LAWS TO KEEP THESE PEOPLE OFF THE STREETS. OR OPEN SEASON ON THEM

Mr/Mrs Cunningham is THE problem, along w all the other schmucks of his ilk. .(ie Rush, Sean H, O’Reilly, et al). They feed on fear and ignorance & most often lack veracity or embellish facts. I hate to admit this, but it’s true that there are far too many persons in Our Great Country w IQ’s less than a common shoe size….therein lies the reason that these right-wing , hate-mongers are allowed to spew their filth.
